Three Things YOU Can Do To Help Our Urban Forest!

urban forestTrees have rights too!

Here in San Francisco trees are protected in many ways. They are protected by the law, by citizens like you, by organizations like Friends of the Urban Forest, and by city agencies like the Department of Public Works. If someone wants to cut down a street tree they must apply and pay for a permit, which shows the city gave them permission to cut the tree down. They must also replant a new tree to replace the tree they removed. There is also a program in San Francisco that helps turn certain trees into landmark trees or trees that can never be harmed. Landmark trees are trees that are so old or special to our city, that there are special laws to protect them as long as they live.
