Using the Green Cart

The FBI Needs You!

Five Things YOU Can Do To Compost!

The FBI Needs You!

San Francisco is the first city in the nation to collect food scraps for composting! Residents can put yard waste, dirty paper like empty milk cartons and paper napkins, and leftover food-including meat, dairy and bones-into the green cart and place it on the curb to be picked up by the garbage company. The contents of the green cart are taken to a composting facility called Jepson Prairie. After three months, it is transformed into compost and is ready for use. Farmers in the area buy the compost to use on their organic farms, which grow food to feed people. By placing yard waste, food scraps and dirty paper into the green cart, the people of San Francisco help create new food from old food!
