Where are natural resources found?

Although natural resources come from the earth, they are not always found close to home. Natural resources often come from far away places before they end up in our city. For example, many trees we use for making paper come from the Southeastern forests of the United States. Petroleum or oil comes from deep underground, in places like the Middle East, and from underneath the ocean floor. Aluminum comes from a mineral called bauxite, which is found in tropical rainforests. Even the water in our faucets must travel all the way from the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in the Sierra Nevada Mountains before reaching San Francisco.
