Getting Involved

  1. Start a recycling and composting program at your school.
Our innovative Food to Flowers! lunchroom composting program is the first and largest in the nation!
  2. Create a Worm Bin.
Bring in some “classroom pets” that teach about composting.
  3. Plant a School Garden.
School gardens are a great way for kids to learn!
  4. Take the Bottled Water Pledge!
Plastic water bottles are bad for human health, degrade the environment, add to global warming, and result in huge amounts of waste and litter. Learn how to avoid plastic bottles and take the pledge to stop buying bottled water!
  5. Collect Reused Paper
Set up paper reuse boxes for collecting one-sided print jobs. Use the lids of old boxes and affix our Phoebe the Phoenix label to the box.
  6. Recycle Ink Cartridges
Fundraise for your school by recycling ink cartridges.
  7. Implement a Double Sided Printing Policy.
Set your computers and printers to have double-sided copying as the default. Printing double-sided handouts, reports, and tests can dramatically reduce paper use, which saves nature AND saves your school money.
  8. Buy Recycled or Used.
Encourage your school to purchase items that are reusable, recyclable, made from recycled materials, and are safe and non-toxic. Purchasing these products will conserve natural resources, and help protect nature. These organizations offer free or low-cost reusable supplies for schools:
